fearsome oekaki
Fearsome is in Low Power Mode!

What's that mean for you, discerning pixel poker? Most likely, what you see is what you get. Some parts of the site may not be working 100%, and there's a possibility that if it's broken, it might stay that way for a while.

If you can't log in to your account, drop a line. We should be able to reset your user flags.
If you can't get the applet to run, make sure your Java installation is up to date, and make sure you're drawing with ChickenPaint; the other applets are mostly deprecated, and might not successfully post your art (if you can even load them up at all).

EDIT: Retouched picture =)
Hello - I've been a stalker of this place for a couple of years, and finally signed up.
These are my alien characters, Xou and Christopher. I might be drawing them the most here..
Any tips? His back was making me angry.
I know I could work on this longer, though that risks the picture being too big, and I lost many pictures that way on other oekaki's =( just by working on it too long.
Even though I'm 20, I still feel a little embarrassed making these type of pictures. >_>;
Prosopagnosia @ Monday, June 23rd 2008, 2:22 PM
i loooove the curve of his lips :9
christiana @ Tuesday, June 24th 2008, 3:07 PM
I think he looks like the better character..but the whole picture is nice..and I must agree about the lips...super sexy.:)
Gendaru @ Wednesday, June 25th 2008, 9:54 AM
avatar
Saucy!

No need to be embarrassed! I think this is a fine start, but I'd like to see more definition overall. This looks half-finished to me. I'd like to see some separation from the background, more detail on the female character and so-forth.

You don't need to leave the applet open for the total duration of the picture. You can safety save if you think you might have worked for too long, and go back to it later. I'd like it if you'd retouch this picture and add a little more clarity. It has potential.
apeirophobia @ Thursday, June 26th 2008, 1:05 PM
I agree with Gendaru, I think even a simple dark green outline in choice spots would sharpen this up brilliantly.
KJOlsie @ Saturday, June 28th 2008, 7:11 PM
Thanks! I worked hard on his face to get it that way it is.. and will refine her face.
And Thank you guys for the tips =)

The lines are a bit rough... But I really like the colors in her hair. Especially the purpleish bits that look like the undermost hair was dyed separately. There's a neat depth there.
Erie @ Friday, June 20th 2008, 8:30 PM
This picture just strikes me as kind of blah... like, the lazy background is kind of a bummer when it looks like she's clearly sitting on something, and the lack of effort in the hair/boots. This could be cool, it looks like you have some talent hiding under there, bring it out--spend some more time on it. I like her outfit and it looks like you had something going with the hands.
Katbot @ Saturday, June 21st 2008, 6:30 AM
Actually, I love it how she is sitting on nothing. The coloring is great! Loving the pose. I guess her laces could have been better. But it is still amazingly nice!
Otori @ Sunday, June 22nd 2008, 3:33 PM
I agree with Erie, there are many color bleeds and the lineart seems rushed. I do like the character design and her posture though. A bit more time and this picture has amazing potential, you have a lot of talent in you, and I'm sure I'm not the only one eager to see it ^^'
Prosopagnosia @ Sunday, June 22nd 2008, 4:36 PM
i really wish you'd put more effort into your drawings. i'm sure you're capable of so much more. for example, the fact that the feet, boots, and laces are so rushed can really distract the eye from the rest of the picture.
Kalyandra @ Sunday, June 22nd 2008, 10:58 PM

Before becoming defensive, how about reading the [url:http://fearsome-oekaki.com/showrules.php]rules[/url]? Traditionally, practice images are not permitted. You should be appreciative of the fact that this wasn't simply deleted for violating rule#1.

For future reference, it would be best if you didn't use this board to practice. This board is for your best work only.

I applaud every comment on this picture. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

her body seems a mite small for her head, but i dig that hair like none other. also her lips and nose!

i don't think the head is too large- just gives her a childish appearance. really great style you have here. myself i'm a fan of that nose. and the type looks pretty considered, i like it, althout i don't know what you're saying!

Here is an anthro anteater. I'm going to have a lot of stuff in the art show at Anthrocon (in Pittsburgh) in a few weeks, so I'm still on an anthro binge.

It's been a while since I've worked with solids so much, sorry if it's not all that well done. What about the black outline? Should I change the color to match the background more, make it more transparent, or should I add darker outlines throughout the background? Or is it okay, as is?
Erie @ Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 5:20 PM
It looks GREAT. The outline is great because it is more grey than black. The only part of the shading that looks a little off is on the neck. Otherwise, great job. Those dudes have weird feet, I saw one at the zoo two days ago.
reign @ Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 5:25 PM
Spectacular. I love how the black on her torso/chest kind of looks like a tanktop.
skiddy @ Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 8:28 PM

I think the lines are good as they are, honestly. I wouldn't darken the background any (it's actually rather nice as it is), and if you lighten the foreground outlines too much it'll look weird (bold coloring vs light lines .. doesn't always mesh). It's not bad to have dark lines n_n
Good luck with your art at Anthrocon :D

Very nice, I love the cross hatching, and as well, I agree that the lighter background adds to this. Her feet are adorable. Definatly looking forward to more of your stuff at AC.

Hiyo Fearsome, long time no see.

Haven't done anything art related in about a year, oekaki in ~2, so many apologies if this pic is terribad, the color pallet is very... pale. >< Not sure what I was going for other than practice. Enjoy.
Erie @ Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 5:23 PM
This is a great idea, but I think the product could have been so much better if the woman's face and shoulders were more worked on. Besides that, the only thing wrong is her shoulders seem kinda funky... great idea, but I think it's better to submit finished pieces...
reign @ Saturday, June 14th 2008, 3:01 PM
I think it looks just fine. The pale palette works well with the subject, gives it a very soft, dreamlike quality. Finished pieces don't always have to look hellaciously complicated; the simplicity is nice to see.

In the animation, I really like where this was going about a third of the way in... and even halfway in, I liked it pretty well.... your final product here is really cute and I like it, but I wish you had kept going with one of those other concepts/coloring styles. Nice job with exploring new things though... sometimes it is really enlightening to just erase the whole thing and start over, as I see you did quite a few times! But man, I really liked it with the two little monster people. That was so cute.

I really enjoyed watching the animation, too. I'm a bit sad that the first face you were working on didn't pan out, I think that was definitely my favorite. I rather like the mottled look you went for - I guess it looks a bit more natural? Your monster girls are great :D

I like this, tho. And it remind me of the Midna. :P
Prosopagnosia @ Thursday, June 12th 2008, 7:47 PM
haha yeah, i liked the little guy too but i felt like he would add too much clutter. i couldn't get his position quite right either :(
and yes, while the glowing green eyes were fun, the clash of them compared to the orange and blue tones bothered me.

thanks for all the comments!
apeirophobia @ Friday, June 13th 2008, 11:23 AM

haven't drawn here for a while, and I'm really sorry if this pic really isn't up to par. I really didn't know what to do with the background. sorry if it causes an eyesore.
Erie @ Friday, June 6th 2008, 7:13 PM
Try again, and make something a little more coherent. It looks a little random. your shadowing technique is good but remember that things only usually cast a shadow one direction, not all directions.
reign @ Friday, June 6th 2008, 7:33 PM
Hm. I like the elements of the drawing, but I'm not certain if they all work together, so to speak. For instance, the background, while lovely, doesn't work with the more somber mood you have going with the woman. It draws attention from her, in fact, and I believe she's supposed to be the main focus. The lines would also benefit from being cleaner/more defined.

I enjoy your shading, particularly the hair. It's very soft.
Sady @ Saturday, June 7th 2008, 3:14 PM
It's the solid lines and watercolors. They RARELY go together, and they don't in this instance. It's very sloppy and the color bleeds out of the lines everywhere.

It's just not a good combination.
fruitcake elemental @ Wednesday, June 11th 2008, 8:58 AM
Erie, are you some sort of facist art director or something? You should really leave your work at work; life will be more fun. It would be a completely different tune if your comments were actually helpful to the artist, but you just sound like someone who thinks all art is solely created for you.

I like the shading on her hair, however I'll have to agree with Reign about the background. It's nice, but doesn't really suit the mood. Something darker would draw the main focus to the character.
